building a church

Jan 31, 2016

Five years on from the devastating Canterbury earthquakes, a number of parishes around the diocese are looking to build new churches to replace destroyed and damaged churches. While this mission provides a great opportunity, many parishes are struggling to appreciate the significance of a Catholic Church building as our pragmatic kiwi minds rush ahead to get the task completed asap, discarding anything that is old, transcendent and timeless, and replace these churches with new, cheap and comfortable structures.

This brief video clip presents Bishop Barry Jones’ recent document on church building: God’s Dwelling Place.

You can read the document at this link, or order hard copies (free) by sending your name and postal address (with number of requested copies) to john@foodforfaith.org.nz.
