be a donkey

Apr 13, 2014

I wish that I could hear priests preaching more often. As a priest I am usually preaching myself, and my chance to savour the homilies of others is limited to Internet Youtube and podcasts. However nothing can match the thoughtfully and prayerfully prepared homily live in liturgical setting.

Tonight Brendan, (facebook friend at this link),  shared the ultra brief Palm Sunday homily of Fr. Maliu Otutaha preaching this morning at Mass at Saint Mary’s in Northcote, Auckland;

“I am the donkey, we are all the donkey – we are all called to carry Jesus into the world.”

If I had heard this earlier I would have “borrowed” it for my own Palm Sunday homily. Thanks Brendan for passing it on.

Such wise people have reflected on their life experience enough to know that while a peaceful and perfect day is welcome, we are most connected with others and therefore with God (we could also say most connected with God and therefore with others), when we live a struggle together.
