In the last couple of days, since the ordination of our brothers Do Nguyen, Tien Cao and Thanh Tran as transitional deacons at St. Mary’s Pro-Cathedral, Christchurch on Saturday there have been many great photos and accounts of the joy-filled celebration on social media sites. For me, not able to be present due to my study commitments in Chicago, it is a delight to be able to share the occasion in this way. It is a special cause for great joy for me as diocesan Vocations Director since I have no doubt that Saturday’s ordinations will mark a new era of enthusiasm for priestly Vocations among the people of our diocese.
While the photos and comments from Facebook friends have been great, even greater moments of fine dining for my faith has come from the Rite of Ordination of Deacons which I have been savouring in prayer. The homily from this Rite is the one used by Bishop Barry Jones at Saturday’s ordinations. Here it is, for your own reflection.
