Masterchef

Sep 13, 2015

For some weeks the people of the Hurunui, and especially parishioners, have been delighting in the inspiration provided by our Hurunui friends Richard and Leo in the national 2015 Masterchef contest. Every Sunday and Monday evening we watch these artists at work preparing food that delights the chef judges, and which reminds us of the beauty of a talent generously shared.

A few minutes ago we rejoiced again as Leo and Richard made it through to the final five. While such reality shows are known for being cut-throat competitive, this series of NZ Masterchef is different. There is a generosity of spirit and and genuine friendship between these final competitors. The show is a delight to watch.

On behalf of us all thank you Richard and Leo and your friends for providing such inspiring viewing.

A few years ago I discovered the wonderful way that God uses my imagination in my prayer.
Such openness to imagination when seeking God does not take us away from reality into fantasy but instead brings me into what is most real and inescapably personal and intimate.

A couple of thousand years ago, a young Jewish woman was going about her normal morning routines, perhaps with a mixture of house and garden work, chatting with parents and neighbours, aware of the local drought, the sickness of a neighbour and annoyed by the neighbourhood’s lack of sleep caused by the Romans’ noisy party the night before, when God broke into her routine and entered her life in a new and powerful way.
