It was on this morning four years ago that in New Zealand we woke to the news that Pope Francis had been elected.

I recall being in the Cheviot Four Square store a few months later in a conversation with others waiting at the check-out line when a tourist, learning that I was the local priest, said excitedly: “we all love Pope Francis.”…
