gay & Catholic

Jun 7, 2014

A New Zealand bishop (among others) is receiving some criticism for his promotion of this 38 minute video especially for those who are gay and Catholic.

I wanted to today upload a link to this movie so that you can see it for yourselves, before I post my own reflection on this website later in the week.

I am sure that everyone who watches the video will already have their own strong views on this issue and the response of the church. You might find it helpful to gently set aside any fears and entrenched attitudes, taking a moment before you begin to invite the Holy Spirit to speak to you anew as you watch…

You can watch the video, The Third Way, at this link

  1. Jesus said nothing about homosexuality. The law against homosexual union has it origin in the OT book of Leviticus which also says that people are to be put do death if they blaspheme or curse their parents. As well, Leviticus tells us we can take slaves from neighbouring countries. The only one of these punitive laws we have kept is the one about homosexuality. Why? What are we afraid of?

  2. Looking forced to your further thoughts on this Fr. John – I really loved The Third Way. It’s a beautiful and powerful antidote to the false dichotomy (repression or unquestioning surrender) that consumes so much of the cultural discourse about this issue.
