what is Vatican II?

Feb 14, 2013

Earlier today Pope Benedict met with the priests of his diocese of Rome. His address to them was informal and without notes, so there unfortunately may not be a complete text for a few days.

His comments are especially important since in this Year of Faith marking the fiftieth year since the opening of the Second Vatican Council, the pope speaks about the Council. It is unlikely that the next pope will have participated in the Council, so these last words from Benedict as Pope are a unique insight.
