synod blog

The Synod on the family is now underway in Rome. Archbishop John Dew represents New Zealand, and takes with him perhaps the broadest and deepest survey ever of New Zealand Catholic on matters of marriage and family life. Each day for the two weeks of the Synod he will blog from Rome.  You can follow his reflections at www.cdf.org.nz

Yesterday he reflected on the first session, highlighting the instruction of Pope Francis:

“speak clearly”
“no one can say ‘this cannot be said’”
“say what needs to be said without fear”
“listen with open hearts to what our brothers are saying”
“listen with humility, speak in peace and calm”
“keep in your minds and hearts that this is an experience of Synodality”

Today Archbishop John summarised his own intervention at this morning’s session. You can read his summary at this link.

  1. Pope Francis and Archbishop John preach the love and freedom of Christ Jesus. We pray that those who hear, are not on the side of the Pharisees.
