.

an answer…

to prayer.

A few minutes ago – as I write – white smoke billowed from what has been in these days the most watched chimney in the world.

I’m writing now to meet the 5.am Aotearoa deadline for the FFF email so as yet I don’t know which of the cardinals has been elected, just that the white smoke has indicated that we have a pope.

It is a moment when we can simply savour the fact that our prayers have been answered.

The clear evidence is that the Holy Spirit has spoken and has been heard – there is no other way that a diverse group of 133, representative of every part of the world and every theological perspective could have come to a two-thirds majority within two days.

Thanks be to God.

  1. He has the same kind look as Pope Francis!! You can’t make that look up, it comes from deep inside & shines out. We are thrilled & so grateful to have another good man.

  2. I was very excited to hear this news this morning, as was the whole church, and probably most around the globe were pleased and will move back to talking about wars etc.
We pray for our new Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, that he is honoured by all the faithful of the Catholic Church in particular. We pray for people to accept him as a man of God’s choice, which he is of course, and he is asking us all to pray for much needed unity.

In Aotearoa we feel a connection with our new pope since he grew up speaking and thinking in our language.
